Week 2 Blog

The brand I selected is McDonald's. They tweeted recently about how their burgers now have no artificial preservatives, flavors, or added colors. A lot of people are replying positively, but some are not. Overall, a lot of people like McDonald's, or at least eat their frequently.

The company's Value Proposition is, "McDonalds stands for friendliness, cleanliness, consistency, and convenience." I think people's opinion on whether that is true or not varies greatly.

A few things that people were specifically saying in response to the tweet were that they should have does this years ago. I completely agree. They had the ability and money to do so but decided to wait until now. Why? McDonald's claims change takes time, but I think they could have done it sooner. Another comment was positive, saying they were thrilled about the new improvements. I think that for people who eat their a lot, this is really exciting because they will feel better about what they are putting into their bodies. The last big thing people were responding with was about how they should make a vegan option. A lot more people are vegan these days, and I think McDonalds could increase sales if they came out with at least one vegan "burger" option. However, they might not care enough to do so.

McDonald's is simply trying to sell their food. They want to market to as many people as they can and they are hoping to increase that by making their burgers without artificial preservatives and flavors.

They are marketing through social media primarily. They know their clients and how to reach them. They realize a lot of the people who go to their restaurant, are on social media and that's why they pay to market on platforms like Twitter. A challenge that they face though, seems to be that a lot of people are trying to eat healthier, or are becoming vegan/ vegetarian, so they choose not to eat McDonald's as much. So, they have to keep coming up with bigger and better marketing campaigns for social media.

Like they are already doing, I would respond to the customers positively and interact with them. McDonald's Twitter interacts well with their customers on social media and makes them feel like they have a voice. I think that is very smart and I would continue to do that if I was the brand manager.

I learned that McDonald's is an evolving company who continues to try and market to their clients through popular platforms. I think it is important to interact with the customers and figure out what they want.
